But when she saw an advance copy of the issue, she discovered that the Journal had performed some radical cosmetic surgery on her photo. ““We used technology to change the dress and remove the tattoo, to make the cover more appealing to our readers,’’ says Journal marketing director Susan Parkes. But, she insists, the actress’s anatomy wasn’t retouched. Cher, as famous for her superbly toned 50-year-old hardbody as for her throaty belting, maintains that everything below the chin in the photo belongs to someone else. While no lawsuit is planned, her spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg, told NEWSWEEK, ““The fact that you work hard on your body and then have it removed is a pukey situation.''
